I interpreted that as “at least they’ll still be able to get them used, and they’ll be cheap”

It makes me sad to think about how poor this person’s grammar skills are.

I am also not sure if he knows how market share works, but it is hard to interpret what he is actually trying to say.

Problem is that people expect to find these cars on the used market and get disappointed when they can’t find many.

You can’t have that expectation if us enthusiasts don’t buy/lease them new.

Yeah, but l amenting the loss of new sedans in the market while buying only used ones ? You have two options:

1. Stop complaining about how sad the state of the market is with the crossovers blah blah

2. Put your money where your mouth is and buy a new sedan.

He’ll realize that more and more when he tries to buy a sedan in the future.

Stay for the...Hot takes? Like how  an Accord V6 manual is the greatest car ever made in the history of the automobile.

That’s funny and it doesn’t surprise me in the least.

Just like those complaining over the loss of manual transmissions, you can’t expect OEM’s to keep making them when people are only buying them used (dealer stocking issues aside).

Put yo money where your mouth is, enthusiasts !

Baruth no longer writes for them, so I don’t think that will come up any longer. He recently quit Road and Track as well.

While I didn’t always agree with him, he always had a salient point nested in with his rantings. His responding comment base OTOH was the most pig-headed retarded drivel I’ve read outside of Kinja, so I presume wherever he goes next the hot takes will continue. Personally, I’m a fan, because I don’t care how dickheaded someone is during communication as long as they’re correct. I’m still waiting to see if his predictions about what cars will hold value be true, however. And he’s raced at a professional level, (semipro, really) which most of his critics have not.

And if a car had all that but was made by GM, TTAC would still find some reason to bitch about it lol

He left Road & Track to work at Hagerty. I don’t believe it’s a writing position from what I read, but some of his articles will be posted there online.

I agree with you, the man gets a lot of hate, some justified, some not, but he’s a great writer. You also don’t see many Journalist that can wheel like him either, I’ll give him respect for that.

Again, you’re interpreting it as they’re only buying used, I’m interpreting it as only buying a Fusion Sport, and the only way to get it is used. Just like trying to buy a Fiero or MR2, they phased out cheap mid-engine 2-seaters , but at least you could still get them used for relatively cheap. Your argument to that is that he should go back in time to make more money and be in the market for them when they’re sold new?

Hey, if they’d sell something I actually wanted to buy I’d buy a new car, instead I’m left hunting the used market.

Even if every enthusiast went out and bought exactly what they wanted brand new, the results would be so skewed and there are so few of us that it wouldn’t even be a blip on their radar.

obviously, no matter what enthusiasts say or do, I t doesnt matter shit for the industry focussed on the 99 % of consumers. U nless it’s a very specific sub set of Sportscars that have a high % of enthusiasts who can actualy afford them new and can demand manuals, for example and the take rate justifies keeping it around

So what I’m saying is if you wont buy them new, e nthusiasts should probably stop complaining about crossovers and the impending   sedanapocaplypse then.

I worked at a certain manufacturer that sells convertibles and they would offer red cars, c ertain coupes and convertibles real cheap on the employee lease plan because they were more lucrative in the used market than they were in the new.

they have their own blog now. Predictably, it (and its commentariat) is MAGA Land. ‘course, what do you expect from someone who literally said “we’re the two smartest people in any room” in a TTAC article.
